In today’s day and age, it’s hard to imagine living without a cell phone. There was a time when handsets had a very limited use but in the present day scenario, the functions are countless. This implies more phone usage by a much larger population. Also, in case of some urgent work, it’s just really quick and convenient to dial a number and get it done rather than waiting to meet in person.

Although mobile service providers offer tempting post-paid plans, many of us prefer to have a pre-paid connection so that you pay only for what you use instead of getting a shock when the monthly bill rolls out. But sometimes it so happens that we forget to recharge our phones, or are in a situation where there’s no internet access, or we simply run out of money. All this when we really need to get in touch with people or use the www. What do you do then?

airtel to airtel balance transfer

Well, if you’re an Airtel user and have friends or family who are also Airtel users, you’re in luck. Why you ask? Because you can now lend or borrow talk time and even data whenever required. This is possible with Airtel’s relatively new feature that allows you to transfer balance between two Airtel accounts.

How does this work?

Think of it as transferring funds to someone’s bank account. Just like when you send money to another person’s account and that amount is deducted from your bank account, the same way, when you request to share your balance (talktime), that amount gets deducted from the sender’s Airtel account and is credited to the receiver’s Airtel account. And Voila! There’s no need to recharge separately.

The Prerequisites:

In order to avail the balance-transfer service on your phone, you must ensure that the following conditions are met:

  • Both, the sender as well as the receiver of the balance (talktime or data) need to be subscribed to the same mobile service provider, i.e. Airtel.
  • You have to have a pre-paid connection. This will not work on a post-paid number.
  • You must know the relevant USSD code for this service in order to process it.

The Method (for Talktime):

Coming to the crux of this article, here is an easy, step-by-step guide on how to transfer balance (talktime) from Airtel to Airtel –

  1. Dial *141# on your phone from your Airtel mobile number (this is the Airtel USSD code for balance transfer service).airtel balance transfer menu
  2. You’ll see a window displaying a menu with options such as:
  • Share Talk Time
  • Buy Happy Hours
  • Take Loan/Ask for Talk Time
  • Gift Pack
  • Call Me Back SMS
  • Account
  • Help
  1. Tap the answer/select button
  2. Press “1” to choose the “Share Talk Time” option, and hit the “Send” button.
  3. Enter the amount to wish to transfer (minimum value – Rs.5 and maximum value – Rs. 40)
  4. Note that you can use this service up to 5 times daily or up to 150 times in one month.
  5. Its also important to remember that you’ll be charged a minimum service fee of Rs. 10.
  6. Once you’ve entered an amount, proceed to next. It’ll show you the service fee you’ve been charged.
  7. You’ll then be prompted to enter the Airtel prepaid mobile number of the balance receiver
  8. Finally, both, you and your friend/family member will get an SMS confirming the transfer and transaction details.

Transferring Internet Data to Friends or Family Using Airtel (3G/4G):

As mentioned earlier, aside from transferring talk time, you may also share your data with a fellow Airtel user. This is how you can do it:

  1. Text “SHARE” to 121 from your Airtel mobile number.
  2. You’ll receive a text back saying “Now share your 3G/4G balance with any 4 members”.
  3. Then, SMS “VIEW” to 121 in order to see your member list.
  4. If you wish to add another family member/friend with an Airtel number to the list, simply send “ADD<space><10-digit mobile no.>” to 121.
  5. You’ll now get a confirmation message regarding the same.
  6. In case to wish to take someone off the member list, just SMS DEL<space><10-digit mobile no.> to 121.
  7. Again, you’ll receive a text confirming the same.
  8. Any of the 4 members on your list can now use your data by enabling data on their mobile phones.
  9. Note that you cannot key in a particular amount of data you want them to use.
  10. If you wish to check the “shared data balance” you need to check your main data balance.
  11. If you’re still stuck, just dial 198 from your Airtel phone and seek help from their customer care executive.
